Adcote U14s vs Bedstone College – 5-3 WIN
A novel experience playing on home turf; surely home advantage would benefit the girls? Without our ever reliable goalie Rebecca we knew we had some pretty big shoes to fill. A confident Amelia stepped up and took on the responsibility for the role.
A frantic start by both teams, trying to score that first goal, surely it was only a matter of time? Bedstone pushed forward clear on goal with a great save from Amelia. The defence, thanks to Amira held strong, but could we make our attacks count? Carlota, Rosie and Izzy pushed forward, but met with a resilient defence too. Thank you Rosie, our first goal, followed by Carlota’s debut goal for the team and we are 2-0 up.
At the other end, Amelia kept their forwards at bay, making a handful of saves, but we conceded our first goal. Our defender Amira somehow ended up in their shooting D and scored our 3rd goal in the final period. Bedstone scored their second goal, taking us to 3-2 and the nerves began to show.
Izzy goes past one, two, three players, she shoots and yes of course she scores! Scrap any changes! With minutes to go Izzy goes on another run, virtually bulldozing past the opposition and scores again – the girl is on fire!
The final score, 5 – 3 thanks to Amelia’s excellent goalie keeping – she rightly received player of the match.
Adcote U15s vs Bedstone College – 1-6 LOSS
The U15s played their first fixture this term and came unstuck against a well versed team. Two goals in two minutes and I knew this could be an uncomfortable match to watch. Scarlett worked hard to get forward alongside Bryony, but now it was their goalie’s turn to keep us out. Despite our efforts Bedstone were slamming the door shut and their counter attack was too much for our defence.
Chips, beans and sausages are awaiting the players for match tea – we just have to get through this final period, starting 0 – 4 down. Despite more assaults from the opposition, Scarlett managed to breakdown the defence and score our first goal. Phew!
The final score, 1 – 6 to Bedstone but certainly a valiant effort by the girls, with Scarlett receiving player of the match.
A total of six matches this week: 4 wins and 2 losses. A busy but enjoyable week.
