Local girl and Adcote School boarding pupil, Kinvara Garner, was chosen to play the part of the young Princess Elizabeth in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration last weekend.
Hosted by Ant and Dec, the televised event was a huge success, and involved 900 horses and more than 1,500 people, including Dame Shirley Bassey and Helen Mirren, in a recreation of key moments of the Queen’s life.
Pony-mad Kinvara who comes from Bangor-on-Dee, had been allowed time off from her studies at Adcote School to spend last week practising for the show, and she was at the centre of the star-studded performance at Windsor Castle. Her scene featured the young Queen learning to ride, and involved ‘Princess Elizabeth’ waving to the Queen who was happily watching with the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
13-year old Kinvara, was not fazed by starring in such a prestigious role in front of the Queen and the millions who saw the performance at home. Riding a black fell pony called Bert, Kinvara was watched by many of her friends who tuned in at the boarding houses at Adcote School. One commented ‘Kinvara carried out her duties with grace, elegance and a suitably regal aplomb. She is a lucky girl indeed to have been chosen to star as the young Princess’.
Kinvara felt suitably honoured by playing the role, but hasn’t let the limelight go to her head. This week she is back in class and revising hard for her school exams. But this certainly won’t be the end of the show for Kinvara. Apart from playing the role of Princess Elizabeth, she also had the opportunity to ride with the Chilean riders and met the Chilean Prime Minister. She has now been invited out to Chile, so Adcotians and local friends in Shropshire ‘watch this space’!
